recap

And here they are in all their glory, 30 articles of clothing made into 30 different outfits.

I would like to give a special shout out to my part-time photog & outfit critiquer, Jon.  He once saved you all from seeing an outfit which he likened to a "Robinhood costume".  You should all thank him.  He also informed me I wear my boots to much.  Probs true, but unlikely to change.  Thanks are also in order for my two biggest photo-bombers, Sam & Lucy, my outfit posts just wouldn't be the same without you.  Also, Target, thank you for selling affordable clothing that comprises 96.6667% of my wardrobe.  And last but not least, thank you to all you lovely ladies for all your kind words and encouragement.

While I'm happy to be finished, I am honestly so glad to have done it.  I have always been that person who buys a piece of clothing and gets stuck in a rut of only wearing it one or two ways.  I thought for sure I'd run out of ideas for new outfits, but crazy as it is, I still have more outfits in mind that I could have made from these pieces.  This 30 for 30 remix challenged me to think outside of my box and helped me to make the most of what I already have.

To anyone contemplating doing their own 30 for 30 challenge, two words: do it.  It truly will help you develop a new perspective on your wardrobe and may even help you to save a little moolah {once you realize the endless possibilities that already lie within your closet!}.

jump for joy

sweater & dress: Target, scarf: Kohls, tights: Hue, boots: Famous Footwear

Hallelujah!  The last of my 30 for 30!  I was beginning to fear that this may never end, kinda like when you are going down a dark tunnel slide at a water park and your claustrophobia kicks in and you start thinking that you'll be stuck in that dark plastic tube forever, but then all of a sudden daylight appears at the end of the tunnel and you go flying out into fresh air, freedom, and the tiny wading pool filled with the small children that went down that exact same slide just moments before.  Yeah, that happened to me too.  Anyhoo, it's time to party {in some different clothes} folks.
Also, someone special excitedly wished me a "Happy Birthday!!" today while showing me his success at peeing in his potty and then serenaded me with "happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you".  But if we're being totally honest here, kinda a great present.  Motherhood has changed my perspective on many things, presents included.

And it's not even my birthday.

a day to rest

necklace: Vera Wang for Kohls, socks: Kenneth Cole {stolen from Jon}, all the rest: Target
Yesterday, we heard such an inspirational sermon at church about the Sabbath day.  We were reminded that the Sabbath, simply put, is a day set aside for rest.  A day to rest, to celebrate life, to focus on love, family & God.  a day to nourish the soul.

Both Jon and I have chosen career paths that don't always allow us a weekend.  We used to try to make Sundays our 'family day', but lately, with me being at the hospital every third weekend and Jon's study/test schedule, they've fallen to the wayside.  But we now have a new resolve to spend one day a week, free from distractions {i.e. computers, phones, tv, etc.}, as a family.  Whether that day is a Sunday or not doesn't really matter.  The important thing is just that we do it;  that we take the time just to be, to relax together, & to count our blessings.

voodoo

sweater: H&M, scarf: Target, belt: vintage, jeans: thrifted, socks: JC Penney, boots: Famous Footwear
I can't believe it's already Friday!  I was so busy saving lives and taking names {more like running around in circles & trying to remember my own name} I hardly noticed the week go by.

Last weekend was fantastic.  Jon managed to take some time away from studying and we finally got to cuddle up and watch The Notebook {all thanks to my lovely friend Jenna!}.  We took a trip downtown, went for a walk, did some window shopping, and stopped to watch the boats on the river.  Enjoying some Voodoo doughnuts was also in the plan, but that dang line deters us every time.  Seriously, it is always crazy busy there, always.  The line probably ended in Vancouver for goodness sake.  So we started home empty handed.  As we were turning onto our street Sam asked, "Where we going?".  "Home", we answered.  He started to cry.  He'd been looking forward to getting doughnuts all day and then, without warning, his two year-old dreams had been ripped out from under him.  So we swung by Winco for some grocery store doughnuts instead.

All's well that ends well.

superheroes & whales

shirt: H&M, jeans: Gap, shoes: DSW
Jon came downstairs last night after putting Sam to bed and told me a little story.

Daddly was laying with two-bit in his bed, reading a book.
Two-bit decided daddly needed to be tucked in, so he picked up one of his little blankets and laid it over daddly's back.
 "You look like a superhero!  No, you look like a whale!
Luckily, daddly took this comment in stride and Sam proceeded to tell daddly where his whale tail and his whale mouth  and his whale "lucky fins" were.

Love love love them.

from the mouths of babes

  • "I'm a cowboy!  Look mommy!" {while wearing a pink, sparkly mardi gras hat}
  • "Thanks Nick! Thanks Maryann!  Happy happy birthday!" {admiring their save-the-date.  obviously not quite getting the whole 'wedding' part yet}
  • " 'scuse me lady.  Where the juice one?" {to the fried mozzarella stick taster lady at Costco.  He was adamant they must have juice tasters somewhere}
  • "You don't call me honey, mommy.  I a kid!  I not a honey." {oh. well excuuuse me}
  • "a catapickle?" {when I told him he looked like a caterpillar}

sometimes, when daddy puts you to bed...

...your tummy gets in the way of the zipper, so you get to pick out a superhero band-aid.

{even if the use of a band-aid is quite unnecessary, but a little someone has been itching for an excuse to get one for a while now}.

a little nudge

blazer: Gap, shirt: rhapsody, leggings: Target, boots: Famous Footwear, necklace: Forever 21 {gift}

I finally made it back to the gym for the first time since before Christmas.  Yikes.  You know how when you get out of your routine and it's so hard to get back again?  Before Christmas break, I was loving hittin' up the gym a few times a week after Sam was in bed and just walking my bum off {both literally and figuratively} while catching up on some of my favorite shows.  But then we went out of town, and then school started, and things got busy again, and then I had projects I wanted to do, and then I was too tired, and then I had homework assignments, and then I had important things to do on pinterest, and then I had a million other excuses of why I shouldn't go to the gym.

And then Jon came home a couple of nights ago, took Sam and said, "Go, I got this".  So I did.  And it was wonderful to get back and stretch and move and sweat again.

Thanks Jon, for giving me the nudge I needed and for sometimes knowing me better than I know myself.

valentine

scarf: vintage, sweater: Target, shirt: Ross, jeans: Kohls, shoes: Madden girl

I finally got my hands on The Notebook from the library {yay!} but we were so busy last week that we didn't get a chance to watch it.  No big deal, I'll just renew it.  Oh wait, some jerkler put a hold on it and now I can't.  So insensitive of them.  Don't they know it's Valentine's day in like 1 day?  You'd think they have V-day plans of their own or something.  Sheesh.

Truth be told, Jon and I don't have Valentine's day plans anyway.  We'll both be gone doing our respective school things.  But that's one of the {many} nice things about being married, V-day isn't as important anymore.  You don't worry about who your Valentine will be or spending the {overly commercialized} holiday alone.  Not that I don't use it as an excellent excuse to eat an exorbitant amount of reese's cups.

p.s. The very first V-day present Jon ever gave me was a red Valentine's Pez dispenser with a pink heart on top that says "I love you".  I still have it.

food for thought

I saw this quote recently and it really resonated with me.  Which side am I feeding?  While I'd like to be able to say that I only feed the good, that wouldn't be the truth.  There are certainly aspects of my life where I let the anger, resentment and ego sap away my energy.  I don't think that anybody feeds only one wolf 100% of the time, but I think that being able to recognize the areas I am weakest in is a step in the right direction.  And just because the good wolf loses a battle on occasion, that doesn't mean he can't win the war.

coach

sweater, shirt & leggings: Target, hat: H&M, socks: JC Penney, boots: Famous Footwear
Sam and I are heading to a play date group this morning, and he is so very excited to play with his friends.  He doesn't get a lot of kid exposure due to the fact that he stays with grandma while Jon and I are at school, so starting last night, I began the coaching.  "Be a nice boy.  Say 'please' & 'thank you'.  Remember to share.  No throwing toys."  Poor little guy actually gets these coaching sessions each time we go to a kid function, and he's surprisingly receptive.  So, there's another hat to add to the role of mama:  coach, specializing in child-play strategies.  Or you could just call it "rocket science" for short.

a way with words

sweater: Converse for Target, dress: Ross, tights: Kohls, shoes: DSW
Welp, the rain is back but we had a good five day run of sunshine, and any sunshine in winter here is considered an unexpected freebie.  It's kinda like when you go into Starbucks for a coffee and end up walking out with a free caramel macchiato {true story}.  Totally unexpected and totally awesome.  You just gotta enjoy it while it lasts.  Did I ever mention how good I am at analogies?  Because obviously I am.  Sorry guys, don't feel bad, some people just have a way with words...

a day at the beach

shirt: Old Navy, sweater, Target, jeans; Kohls
{I'm getting a little lazy with the outfits pics.  I promise I stuck with the 30 for 30 on the two days I missed, Sam can vouch for me.}

We made a trip out to the beach with some friends this weekend and you wouldn't have even believed it was February. Warm, sunny, hardly a breeze.  I tell ya, I could happily live my whole life right there in that moment.

{this picture made me laugh so hard.  if it weren't for their beachy weekend attire and a child on Jon's shoulders, those facial expressions might lead you to believe that they're about to go all Braveheart on your butt as they follow William Wallace into battle.}

good news & bad news

shirt: H&M, sweater, jacket & belt: Target, jeans: thrifted, boots: Famous Footwear
So, you know when you have a munchy day and you're hungry all day long so you snack & nosh & gorge your way through the day and as you're going to bed feeling all bloated, you kinda loathe your munchy self?  {Speaking of noshing, last time I was at the library I saw a baby book called "let's NOSH!" and all I could think about was, is somebody who only consumes breast milk and rice cereal really interested in "noshing?". Was this truly the most age appropriate topic the author could muster?}  Well, I've had a whole munchy month.  {Seriously, somebody PLEASE stop me.}  But this is always my munchy time of year.  Maybe it's the weather, maybe it's my subconscious' way of revolting against all the Weight Watchers new years resolutions ads... either way I'm just about munched out.  But just today I discovered a new snacktastic treat.  Peanut butter filled pretzels dipped in nutella. This is both good news and bad news.  the good news:  While I may not be a chef, I know a good thing when I taste it.  the bad news: this discovery may extend my munchies indefinitely.
