goodbye to fall

This morning, as I scraped the frost off of my car window, and as Sam quickly withdrew his hand from the door handle exclaiming, "What is that???" regarding the frost that covered the rest of the car, I knew fall was officially over.  After explaining that it was just frost from being so cold outside, he excitedly proclaimed that it must be winter now and Santa is most assuredly on his way.

From the mouth of babes.  Yes, winter is here.

So long fall, we loved having ya.  But winter, we're looking forward to having some special moments with you too {p.s. if you could please muster up some snow for these parts, we would much appreciate showing our little boy the finer arts of snowman building and snowball fights}.

a doozy

jacket: Wilson Leather, shirt: JC Penney, jeans: Kohls, booties: Ross

Sometimes kids say crazy things, and sometimes they say cuh-ray-zay things.  The other night Sam pulled out a doozy.  He was going to be staying overnight at Grandma and Grandpa's and when I initially explained this to him he was pretty darn pleased with the news.  But after considering it for a moment, he asked, "But where will I sleep?".  I suggested that perhaps he'd get to sleep with Grandma and Grandpa, something I thought he'd be just tickled pink about.  To my surprise, he instead responded with a whimpering "Nooooooooo!".  "Why not?" I asked him.  "Because Grandpa's snoring is so loud!  It sounds like pigs in a hot tub!".

Oh yes, pigs in a hot tub, I am very familiar with this sound...

halloween is for...

...taking advantage of every opportunity to wear your costume in public places.

...and mama to take scenic autumn pictures {wait, isn't that everyday??}

...eating Darth Vader cookies.

..playing in the leaves, Thor style, & trick-or-treating with friends.

 ...more trick-or-treating.

... but most importantly, Halloween is for meeting "Big Thor" at a Halloween party and trying to work up the courage allll night long to talk to him, but never quite mustering enough up.  But then, just before leaving, you realize that this just may be your last chance to meet him, so you insist on finding him before you leave.  Finally, after looping the whole perimeter, you find him.  But the closer you get, the more nervous you become until the big moment is spent just. like. this.  Head buried in mama's shoulder.  Unable to even look in his general direction.  He talks to you anyway, telling you he likes your red cape and your hammer.  Then it's time to go.  Moment's over.

Oh, the magic of Halloween through his four year old eyes... :)
